Spotlight on the Calico Rock Community Care Program

“In the Spotlight” this month is one of our food relief agencies located in Calico Rock, Izard County—the Calico Rock Community Care Program.  Rudean Lester, pictured above in her well-organized food pantry—is the volunteer director of the Calico Rock Community Care Program. 

A tremendous amount of planning and just “plain old elbow grease” has gone into the development of the Calico Rock Community Care Program.  Under Rudean’s direction and supported by the organization’s board of directors, the once “useless” old post office building has been renovated to become what is now a very productive facility that houses the food pantry with plans for a “soup kitchen”. 

The Calico Rock Community Care Program serves over 160 families (about 500 individuals) in need from its food pantry each month, the first and third Saturday of each month from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon.  It is one of the “USDA Commodity” distributing agencies of the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas.
