Mountain Home Pizza Hut Donates $5,000 to FBNCA

Mountain Home and Norfork, Arkansas (January 27, 2010) – Alex Baugh, Restaurant Director of the Pizza Hut located in Mountain Home announced today a donation of $5,000 to the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas. According to Baugh, the local Pizza Hut was one of three restaurants of the over 7,000 Pizza Huts in the United States to be awarded $5,000 from their corporate offices to be donated to a local hunger relief organization. Baugh said, “After researching the local not-for profits in our community involved in the effort to end hunger, the staff of the Mountain Home Pizza Hut felt that more hunger relief agencies would benefit by giving the award to the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas.”
Linda Finley, Executive Director of the local Food Bank expressed her gratitude to Baugh and the customers and staff of the Mountain Home Pizza Hut saying, “This $5,000 donation will ultimately touch the lives of over 21,000 people suffering from food insecurity in our service area by providing for 25,000 meals! Now that is truly making a difference in our communities!”
The Mountain Home Pizza Hut joined national efforts last year to end hunger worldwide by collecting donations to the World Food Program, an organization that supports hunger relief agencies across the globe, as part of a company-wide effort. Baugh said, “This year global hunger is worse than ever, with more than 1 billion people going to bed hungry every night.” Baugh added, “We were overwhelmed by the response in our community and by our staff. It is so encouraging to see such an outpouring of support for this worthy cause”
World Hunger Relief supports the United Nations World Food Programme and other hunger relief agencies. Nearly 36,000 company and franchised restaurants located in more than 110 countries including Pizza Hut and other Yum! Brands, KFC, Taco Bell, Long John Silver’s, and A&W participate in these fundraising efforts. Yum! Brands, has been committed to fighting hunger for more than a decade by donating more than $46 million of prepared food annually to the underprivileged in the United States. Since the company went public in 1997, it has donated more than $500 million of its food to hunger relief agencies in the U.S.
Last year, the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas (a private, non-profit, 501(c)3 food relief organization) provided over 1,230,000 pounds of food to a network of 40 local partner agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and children’s programs) across 9 counties of North Central Arkansas.
